Privacy policy

This is a translation. The German version is legally binding.

In short: this site sets no cookies, has no tracking or analytics and loads nothing from third-party servers. Back2STEP itself converts your files only on your Mac; they are never uploaded.

2. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.

When you open the site, the server automatically stores technical data sent by your browser: IP address, date and time, page requested, amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer), browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the site and protect it against attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). IONOS deletes or anonymises the log files after a short time.

3. No cookies, no tracking, local fonts

No cookies are set and no usage profiles are created. The fonts (Barlow, Barlow Condensed, JetBrains Mono) are served from this server; there is no connection to Google or other providers.

4. Contact by email or contact form

If you write to me – by email or via the form on the legal notice page – I process your email address, your name (if given) and the content of your message to answer it (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). The message is deleted once it is dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply. The form stores nothing on the server; it only sends your details to me by email.

5. Purchase via Lemon Squeezy

When you click “Buy”, you go to the Lemon Squeezy checkout (Lemon Squeezy, LLC, USA). Lemon Squeezy sells Back2STEP as reseller and is itself responsible for the data you enter there (e.g. name, email, country, payment data). Data may be transferred to the USA. Details: Lemon Squeezy privacy policy.

I receive the order details from Lemon Squeezy (name, email, country, product, licence key) to manage your licence and meet legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR). I do not receive payment data.

6. Licence check in the app

The conversion runs entirely on your Mac; your models never leave it. On activation and then about every 7 days the app sends your licence key and an installation identifier to the Lemon Squeezy licence service (api.lemonsqueezy.com) to verify the licence (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). No other data, for example about your files or your usage, is transmitted.

7. Update check in the app

At most once a day the app requests the file back2step.com/version.json to see whether a new version is available. Only technically necessary data is transmitted: your IP address and the app version. The request ends up in the server log files like a page view (see section 2); nothing else is stored (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can turn the check off in the app settings.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR). Just write to the email address above.

You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany, or the authority in your country.
